The growing environment for
members of the genus can vary
widely. Many types with shallow
rhizomes must have good drainage
or they will experience root
rot. However, other types, most
notably the Siberian iris (I. sibirica), are
perfectly comfortable in wet
sites. Some of them will
actually live and thrive
directly in a pond.
