This is a
"man-made" or hybrid genus which is why the
x (actually a multiplication sign) should be
placed before the name. It is the result of
a cross between
Iris
dichotoma syn Pardanthopsis
dichotoma x
Belamcanda
chinensis, (now called Iris
domestica by some
taxonomists).
These plants
grow to about 36 inches in height and appear
very similar to their parent, Belamcanda but
with larger flowers. They also have a wider
range of colors from blue to purple, yellow,
red, orange and many bicolor combinations.
The foliage is similar to an iris but the
blossoms are quite different.
