The
Louisiana iris group was named by the famed naturalist,
Audubon. It is native to the southeastern part of the
United States and includes the species, Iris fulva,
Iris hexagona, Iris brevicaulis, Iris
giganticaerulea, and Iris nelsonii.
This group of iris has a
wider color range than any other with blooms of blue,
purple, yellow, pink, white, and shades of brownish red.
As you might guess, this is the
state flower
of Louisiana.
