Although
called Siberian Iris or Siberian Flag, this species,
Iris
sibirica, is native to northeast Turkey,
Russia
and
Eastcentral Europe. They spread by
rhizome and are
good flowers for in or near the water. Siberian iris
have smaller flowers than their bearded cousins which
bloom in later spring into early summer. Most flowers
are purplish and some have a pale white to yellow
center.
