Standard or tree roses
are not a specific species or type of rose
but rather a distinct way of growing a
variety of roses. Generally, buds from a
hybrid tea,
floribunda,
grandiflora or
miniature rose cultivar are grafted on
top of a tall trunk from a wild rootstock.
Tree roses make a great
statement in the garden. However, they are
not especially winter hardy so they take
special protection. In areas with severe
winters, the best place for them is in a
greenhouse.
