Hosta 'Prince of Wales'

A hybrid of H. 'Elegans' × H. montana, this cultivar was registered in 2012 by Diana Grenfell of England . It forms a giant size (36 inches high by 70 inches wide) mound of slightly corrugated, cupped, elliptic to ovate foliage with thick substance. Near white, tubular flowers bloom from June into July and it sets viable seeds.

The New Encyclopedia of Hostas by Diana Grenfell (2009) states: "Long leaf blade and impressive flower scape weighed down by the long, heavy raceme."

An article by Warren I. Pollock in The Hosta Journal (2001 Vol. 32 No. 2)  states that, "H. 'Prince of Wales' is a brand-new cultivar, a large blue-leaved H. 'Sieboldiana' seedling...It should be available in Britain in 2002."
