Hosta 'Pin-up'

This is one of those cases where there are two hostas with the same name. One is registered and, therefore, the "official" version of H. 'Pin-up' while the other is a non-registered plant and needs to be renamed to avoid further confusion.

This sport of H. 'Kiwi Full Monty' was registered by Danny Van Eechaute of Belgium in 2010. It is a large size plant about 19 inches high with a spread of around 29 inches. The foliage is medium blue-green with a pure white medial (center) variegation. Its leaves are ovate, flat and has a glaucous bloom on top. Pale lavender flowers bloom from mid-July into August.

An article by Warren I. Pollack in The Hosta Journal  (2020 Vol. 51 No. 1) titled Doppelgänger Hostas: Fancy Name for Look-alike Hostas, included a long list of hostas which various hostaphiles, published articles or other sources have indicated "look" the same. Some of these are, in fact, the same plant with two or more different names. Others are hostas that vary in some minor trait which is not immediately discernable to the casual observer such as seasonal color variations, bloom traits, ploidy, etc. So, as Warren mentions, hostaphiles may differ as to the plants listed but then, their opinions are based on visual observations and interpretations.

H. 'Pin-up', H. 'Pole Cat', H. 'Risky Business', H. 'Stripped Naked', H. 'White Bikini' and H. 'White Line Fever'.

Originated by Alex Malloy, this non-registered cultivar is a seedling of H. 'Loleta Powell' × H. 'Bizarre'. It is a small size hosta with green foliage that has an unstable white streaked variegation.
