Registered by
Tony Avent of
Plant Delights Nursery in North Carolina
in 1999 and originated by
Ed Skrocki of Ohio, this
cultivar of unidentified parentage grows into a medium size hosta about 15 inches tall by
44 inches wide. The leaves are elliptic to ovate in shape and
have thin substance. In August, it bears purple,
semi-bell-shaped flowers. According to
The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "...known for its fast growth rate, attractive foliage, and
good flower performance...it appears to be related to 'Decorata'..."
An article in
The
Hosta Journal (1994 Vol. 25 No. 2) by Warren I. Pollock states that Ed Skrocki was a collector of Packard cars and this hosta is named for a model
name of that brand. "A seven-division clump sold for $875 at the 1992 AHS
National Convention auction. Single divisions now sell for $15!" In an article about hybridizing by
Tony Avent in
The
Hosta Journal (1996 Vol. 27 No. 1), Tony gives the
following comments on cultivars he has introduced: "H. 'Patrician' - an
Ed Skrocki release, vigorous grower with nice yellow-edged leaves...great late
season floral display."
