Hosta 'Neat Splash Rim'

The picture above was labeled as H. 'Neat Splash', however, it appears to have sported into the more stable cultivar, H. 'Neat Splash Rim'.

This plant is the stable form of the streaked cultivar H. 'Neat Splash' and was registered by The American Hosta Society in 1986.

The plant forms a medium size (17 inches high) mound of streaked foliage. Its leaves are rounded at the base, slightly wavy and have average substance. From late July into August, it bears medium purple colored flowers.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "In 1986 The American Hosta Society decided to name and register this sport, which had been found in many hosta collections. Nearly every specimen of 'Neat Splash' eventually develops this form. In fact many plants labeled 'Neat Splash' are actually 'Neat Splash Rim'."

An article by Warren I. Pollock in The Hosta Journal (1998 Vol. 29 No. 1) states that, "...I'm told there are nurseries that list H. 'Neat Splash' but actually sell and ship H. 'Neat Splash Rim'..."
