Hosta 'Midnight Oil'

This fast growing hybrid of H. 'Potomac Pride' × H. 'Neat Splash Rim' was registered by Beverly and Dave Stegeman of Indiana in 2004. It is a medium size (16 inches high by 40 inches wide) plant with very shiny dark green foliage. The leaves are heavily corrugated, cupped with thick substance. Medium purple flowers bloom in July.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "Its combination of shininess, dark green color, and large puckers of corrugation gives 'Midnight Oil' a high level of distinction."

From the Field Guide to Hostas by Mark Zilis (2014), "The leaves...are so shiny that a first time view might think, 'Did someone spray vegetable oil on that plant?' Its shininess is likely the greatest found in any hosta."
