Originated in Japan but registered in 2002
by Peter Ruh of Ohio
and
re-registered
with new data in 2018, this
slow to medium growing, upright cultivar
is of unidentified parentage. It is a medium size hosta about
17 inches high and 33 inches wide with dark green
foliage that has irregular chartreuse to creamy white
marginal variegation. The leaves are moderately twisted,
moderately folded, ovate and slightly shiny on top. It
bears lightly striped, light lavender colored, tubular flowers on scapes 14 to
16 inches tall from August into September. Seed set was
unknown at the time of registration. According to the registration materials: "...late flowering; stately clump; good texture..." Mikiko Lockwood in an article on The Hosta Library titled,
A Little About Japanese Hosta Terms defines the term kifukurin or ki fukurin as yellow edge(d) or
yellow margin(ed).
