Hosta 'Katherine Lewis'

This sport of H. 'Halcyon' forms a medium-size (18 inches high) plant. It is an non-registered hosta by English hybridizer, Alan Lewis. It bears pale bluish lavender flowers from late July into August.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "...named this cultivar for his daughter...For a few years, this was mistakenly listed by a few nurseries as 'Kathryn Lewis'. It is quite similar to 'June', except for the leaf center, which becomes a brighter gold as the season progresses."

From The Hosta Journal, (2002 Vol. 33 No. 2), "...H. 'Katherine Lewis Is a seedling, not a sport, of H. 'Halcyon'..."

An article by Warren I. Pollock in The Hosta Journal (2002 Vol. 33 No. 1) quotes English nurseryman Roger Bowden "We obtained some plants from Terra Nova Nurseries (Tigard, Oregon), and the labels with them spelled H. 'Kathryn Lewis'. We had some plants from Alan Lewis labeled H. 'Katherine Lewis' and upon enquiry Alan confirmed that his spelling of his daughter's name was correct! Alan Lewis had a nursery incorporated in the grounds of Forde Abbey near Chard in Somerset..."
