This is a
tissue culture sport of
H. 'Royal Standard' that
was originated by
Mark Zilis
of Illinois but registered by the Indianapolis Hosta Society in 1995. This
medium size (18 inches high by 36 inches wide) mound has leaf centers that change from yellow
to green as the summer progresses. It bears a large grouping of
white flowers in August.
The New Encyclopedia of Hostas by
Diana
Grenfell (2009) states in its Hosta Hybrids for Connoisseurs chapter: "Large,
white, fragrant flowers make the hosta worth the trouble of growing it."
This plant was distributed at
the
National Convention of
The American Hosta Society in Indianapolis in 1995.
An article about H. 'Hoosier Harmony' (originated by
Bob Solberg) by Warren I. Pollock in
The
Hosta Journal (1996 Vol. 27 No. 1) states that, "I think
this is the best new introduction of 1995...It has all the great characteristics
of 'Royal Standard'. It is a good grower, with big white fragrant flowers, that
will tolerate sunny locations given ample water."
