This hybrid of
H. longipes hypoglauca
x H. 'Maruba Iwa' is a non-registered cultivar from
Cees Visser of the
Netherlands. It forms a small size mound with foliage that is
ovate, wavy, has smooth texture and has a thick, white bloom on
the underside. It has intensely red petioles with the color
moving up into the midrib of the leaf.
The New Encyclopedia of Hostas by
Diana
Grenfell (2009) states: "Claret-pink dots along the midrib at the base of
the leaf."
Mikiko Lockwood in an article on The Hosta Library titled,
A Little About Japanese Hosta Terms defines the term iwa as rock, Iwa Gibōshi or
H. longipes and the term maruba as round leaf or round-leafed.
