This sport of H. 'Five O'Clock
Shadow' was registered by
Bob Solberg of Green Hill Farm in North Carolina in 2004. The plant forms a
large size (20 inches high by 32 inches wide) mound with pale lavender flowers that
appear from late June into July.
According to
The Hostapedia by
Mark Zilis (2009), "...impressed with its very wide
margin...Bob noted that 'Five O'Clock Somewhere' might be
polyploid."
An article by Warren I. Pollock in
The
Hosta Journal (2006 Vol. 37 No. 1) quotes
Bob Solberg
saying, "H. 'Five O'clock Somewhere' comes from H. 'Five O'clock Shadow'. The
Jimmy Buffet and Alan Jackson song, It's Five O'clock Somewhere was a huge hit
when I was seeking a name for this sport."
