This is a tetraploid sport of H. 'Sea Thunder' that was registered by Hans Hansen of Minnesota in 2002. It forms a large size (24 inches high by 41 inches wide) mound of foliage with a very thick substance. It has lavender flowers from late July into August.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), this cultivar "...represents a new trend in hostas, i.e. induced tetraploids. The foliage colors are more intense, the leaf margin much wider...and the substance is thicker than that of its mother plant."

From the Field Guide to Hostas by Mark Zilis (2014), "...'Georgia Sweetheart' was registered as a sport of 'American Sweetheart' in 2008, but the consensus among growers is that it sported from another cultivar...About 'American Sweetheart', he adds that it "...is one of the first intentionally induced polyploids....Additionally, it is a more consistent plant, garden to garden, and much better grower than its mother plant. 'Sea Thunder'."

The New Encyclopedia of Hostas by Diana Grenfell (2009) states: "Slow to increase, but eventually becomes a superb border specimen. Flourishes in containers if given enough moisture. Divide frequently to maintain the attractive balance between the leaf colors...Differs from the parent in having thicker leaves with a much wider margin and a central variegation that does not scorch or melt out. The flowers are also larger."
