This sport of H. 'Northern Mist' was registered by Van Wade of Wade and Gatton Nursery (Closed 2019) of Ohio in 1999. It forms a large size plant about 24 inches high that spreads to about 50 inches wide. The near white flowers form dense clusters of blooms in mid-June followed by viable seeds.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "The strikingly beautiful white-centered variegation of 'American Masterpiece'makes this cultivar worth growing despite a fairly slow growth rate."

The New Encyclopedia of Hostas by Diana Grenfell (2009) states in its Hosta Hybrids for Connoisseurs chapter: "Although very slow to increase, shows potential vigor. Makes a superb border specimen. Needs regular division of the clump to maintain the most pleasing balance between the leaf blade and margin. Still very rare...Embroidered, crimped puckering, particularly on the leaf margin of mature plants. Some misting or speckling into the center of the leaf blade on young leaves."
