According to The American Hosta Society, a miniature hosta has a leaf blade are of no greater than about 4.0 square inches with a length of no longer than about 4.5 inches. Miniature hosta cultivars originate from several different hosta species and their cultivars. Others of less well-known backgrounds are said to be of a certain species "type".
