Most
geographic locations have a predominate wind direction
based on the movement of major weather fronts. It is
important to know this direction for your home landscape
for the health of your plants.
Whether in the winter or summer, strong winds passing
through your plants can cause water evaporation from the
leaves and, to a lesser degree, from the bark. Certain
plants are very sensitive to this factor and may need to
be located in an area sheltered from the wind to perform
well. Some marginally hardy plants may actually need
properly placed wind screens or other protection to
survive and thrive.
