Carduus nutans Musk Thistle aka Nodding Thistle, Plumless Thistle   Europe Biennial of pastures, roadsides and waste areas especially those with gravelly, sandy soils.   Pink to purple flowers borne in heads 1 to 2 inches wide and nodding.   First year rosettes resemble those of bull thistle (Cirsium vulgare). Second year, flowering plants produce an upright spiny winged stem.
