Deadnettle, Henbit

The genus name comes from the Greek word, laimos, which means "throat" referring to the structure of the flowers. There are over 40 species in this genus native to Asia and Southern Europe.

The strange term "deadnettle" has an equally strange origin. Since these plants do not cause a sting when touched, that makes them "dead" nettles. Wow!
