This
is a genus that
taxonomists are debating so
there is only an estimate that it contains
between 658 and over 1,200 species. Most are
native to tropical or warm temperate regions
of North America, South America, India and
Africa. It is named for a Scottish
horticulturist named James Justice
(1698-1763). Many of the plants appear to be
related to the genus,
Pachystachys.
