This
is another genus that is under discussion by
taxonomists who estimate that there
are between
80 and 255 species. Most include them in the
Bignoniaceae Family while some include
this genus
in the
Malvaceae Family while others say it
belongs in
Sterculiaceae. The debate continues.
Members of this genus are native to
areas in
Africa and Madagascar. It is named
for the French botanist and
plant explorer,
Joseph Dombey (1742-1794).
