There are over 160 species in this genus of
shrubs. They are native to many parts of the
world, both
tropical
and
temperate.
Beautyberry
shrubs are mostly deciduous plants with opposite
leaves that exhibit small pink, blue or violet
flowers in late summer. These are followed in
autumn by clusters of bright purple or white
berries along the stem.
The species from the
tropical regions tend to be
evergreen in nature.
