A
genus of around 100 species, the false
nettles are native to
Asia and North America. There are several types of plants
including
herbaceous perennials, shrubs and
trees. As the common name implies, this
group of plants, although related to the
nettles of the genus,
Urtica, do not have
stinging hairs. It was named after a German
botanist, Georg Rudolf Boehmer.
