John Kulpa of Michigan registered this sport of H. 'Whirlwind' in 1991. It forms a medium size (18 inches high) mound that has shiny dark green leaves and
bears lavender flowers from late July into August.
According to
The Hosta Handbook by
Mark Zilis (2000), it is "...one of the best dark green hostas; greatly
underrated."
The Hostapedia by
Mark Zilis (2009) says, "Consider using it as a foil
to 'Whirlwind' and its many variegated sports."
The New Encyclopedia of Hostas by
Diana
Grenfell (2009) states: "Among the best of the hostas with dark green
leaves. Easily exceeds its registered dimensions."
