There is an image of this
cultivar on the
Hosta Library. From the photo on the HL website, it appears to be a
medium
size hosta with wavy, cupped, green leaves. This non-registered cultivar was
originated by
Rick Goodenough of Massachusetts
and is a streaked hybrid of H. ‘Leaping Lipizzan’.
An article by Rick Goodenough in
The
Hosta Journal (2012 Vol. 43 No. 1) states that, “H.
‘Scalloped Potatoes’ wears its piecrusting proudly on rounded, deeply veined
leaves that are held upright on a large, mature specimen.”
The article goes on to say, “A
relatively recent release, ‘Leaping Lipizzan’ is a strong breeder that turns out
a high percentage of quality, streaked seedlings…Seven of those terrific
seedlings include ‘Breeder’s Cup’, ‘Scalloped Potatoes’, ‘Dover Downs’, ‘Suffolk
Downs’, ‘Gran Premio’, ‘The Stone Horse’ and ‘Belmont Stakes’.”
