In 2003, Peter and Jean Ruh of Ohio registered this cultivar which was purchased from Germany and named for fern specialist, Reginald Kaye, an English nurseryman. The medium size (16 inches high) mound has puckered leaves with a shallow lobe at the base. Dense clusters of flowers bloom in August.

The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), says that this plant falls into a category of "cultivars that exhibit many Tardiana traits but are not a part of Eric Smith's original group...I've seen 'Reginald Kaye' in gardens since the early 1980s and it has always impressed me for its good blue color and thick substance."
