A hybrid of H. longipes hypoglauca  × H. 'Harvest Delight', this cultivar is one of the earliest examples of a hosta with reddish petioles (leaf stalk). It was originated by Roy Herold and introduced for sale in 1995. Kevin Walek (Hosta Registrar) registered this cultivar on Roy's behalf in 2009.

This plant forms a medium size (16 inches high by 36 inches wide) mound with medium to dark green foliage. The deep red petioles support slightly rippled, smooth textured foliage. Medium purple flowers open in early September into October.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "In a speech entitled "Thoughts about Red Petioles" at the 2003 Midwest Regional Hosta Society meeting...Bob Solberg of Green Hill Farm in North Carolina rated this one of the best hostas for red petioles, and I wholeheartedly agree."

The New Encyclopedia of Hostas by Diana Grenfell (2009) states: "Among the best of the newer introductions with red petioles and scapes...Leaf underside covered in a thick, white coating."
