A hybrid of H. rupifraga x H. 'Shining Tot',
this cultivar was registered by
Mark Zilis of Illinois in 1999. It forms a mound
about 12 inches high with a spread of 34 inches. The medium to
dark green foliage is wavy, has smooth texture and average
substance. In late August, it bears purplish red flowers on
similarly colored scapes.
The New Encyclopedia of Hostas by
Diana
Grenfell (2009) states: "Red scapes contrasting with rich mauve flowers."
The
Hosta Journal, (2006 Vol. 37 No. 2), in an article
about flower characteristics stated that this cultivar has "...purple-red scapes and bluish-purple flowers..."
