A hybrid of H. 'Urajiro Hachijo' × H. 'Blue Moon', this cultivar was registered by
Don Dean of Minnesota in 1999. It forms a small size mound about 10 inches high with a spread
of 30 inches. The foliage is ovate to oblong-ovate, slightly
wavy with a thick white bloom on the underside and good
substance. Its lavender flowers open in September.
According to
The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "...ranks highly for the intensity of its blue foliage
color, which lasts well into late summer."
The New Encyclopedia of Hostas by
Diana
Grenfell (2009) states: "A superb recent introduction...Leaves with a heavy
glaucous bloom and of an exceptionally heavy substance."
Mikiko Lockwood in an article on The Hosta Library titled,
A Little About Japanese Hosta Terms defines the term urajiro as white-backed or white underside.
