Hosta 'Merlin'

This is one of those cases where there are two hostas with the same name. One is registered and, therefore, the "official" version of H. 'Merlin' while the other is a non-registered plants and need to be renamed to avoid further confusion.

This seedling of H. 'Pin Stripe' was registered by Dr. Dick and Jane Ward of Ohio in 2003. It forms a medium size mound about 13 inches tall with a spread of 43 inches. The leaves have a blue-green center with a gold margin and are moderately corrugated with thick substance. Pale purple flowers are borne in July.

Hosta Helper will call this plant 'Merlin' (Ward).

Mark Zilis observed a small-sized hosta with green foliage and a yellow marginal variegation by this name in the collection of Peter Ruh of Ohio.

Hosta Helper will call this plant 'Merlin' (Ruh).

A streaked sport of H. 'White Magic' was found on a list of hostas by Dr Ben Zonneveld of the Netherlands. This plant would have been a medium size plant with green foliage that, in this case, would have streaked variegation.

Hosta Helper will call this plant 'Merlin' (Zonneveld).
