Hosta 'Jim Matthews'

This self-pollinated seedling of H. 'Sieboldiana' was originated by Julian Matthews and was registered by Barry Sligh of Taunton Gardens in New Zealandin 1998. It forms a large size mound (23 inches high by 40 inches wide) of blue-green foliage with a whitish medial (center) variegation. The leaves are ovate, wavy and have thick substance. White flowers bloom from mid-June into July.

The New Encyclopedia of Hostas by Diana Grenfell (2009) states in its Hosta Hybrids for Connoisseurs chapter: "Leaf color is more attractive if not exposed to direct sunlight since it varies considerably with differing light intensities. Slow to increase."
