Hosta 'Hush Puppie'

This is an exampel of a "complex hybrid" since it is the result of cross-pollination of several cultivars. Here are the details: ((H. 'Beatrice' × open-pollinated seedling) x open-pollinated seedling) x H. venusta. Tony Avent of Plant Delights Nursery in North Carolina registered it in 2005.

The plant reaches a small size with a height of about 7 inches with a spread of around 13 inches. Its leaves are elliptic to ovate in shape and have a smooth texture. Deep purple flowers bloom in the early summer followed by viable seeds.

The New Encyclopedia of Hostas by Diana Grenfell (2009) states: "Very vigorous and fast growing. An extremely attractive little hosta for edging and ground cover. A superb recent introduction for the smaller garden."
