Hosta 'Fringe Benefit'

Originated by Dr. Kevin Vaughn of Massachusetts and introduced by Paul Aden of New York in the late 1970's, this large size (22 inches high by 56 inches wide) is a seedling of H. 'Frances Williams'. It was registered on Vaughn's behalf by Mark Zilis of Illinois in 2010.   The foliage has dark green centers and creamy white marginal variegation. The leaves have a slightly wavy margin and a heart shaped base. Pale lavender flowers bloom in mid to late July.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), this cultivar "...ranks as one of the best white-margined cultivars from the early 1980s...Though often described as a 'Frances Williams' seedling, it shows little resemblance to it, being more akin to a large 'Fortunei'."
