Registered by
Clarence
Owens of
Michigan in
1987 as a cross between H. 'True Blue' × H. 'Gold
Regal'. It forms a semi-upright large size (24 inches high
by 55 inches wide) mound of blue-green foliage
that is moderately corrugated, deeply cupped, slightly unruly and wavy.
The flowers are medium lavender and appear in July followed by
viable seeds.
According to
The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "As time passes on, my high opinion of 'Blue Betty
Lou' continues to grow. Not only is this cultivar distinctive,
but it also makes an excellent landscape plant."
From the
Field Guide to Hostas by Mark Zilis (2014), "...has been a favorite breeding plant of mine for many
years.
Also, "H. 'Blue Betty Blue' = H. 'Blue Betty Lou'..."
The New Encyclopedia of Hostas by
Diana
Grenfell (2009) states: "Among the most turquoise-hued hostas."
