This is the remains of the ancient wooded
area owned by the Bishop of Paris. In 1183, Philippe-Auguste
enclosed the area with walls which stood until the French
Revolution. Napoléon III began the development of a landscaped
park in Bois de Vincennes between1857 and 1860.
Included in the current park is a zoo,
museums, four lakes and a royal château. The beautiful flower
garden, the Parc Floral de Paris, is host
to the "Foire à la Feraille de Paris" -- an annual antique and
secondhand fair.
