Generally speaking, shrubs that flower in the early spring are types that develop flower buds in the autumn of the year. The buds, therefore, are on the stems over the winter so any pruning during the dormant season will also remove these flower buds. Wait until after the plants have stopped blooming in the spring to prune the following plants.
