Originated in Japan but
imported to the U.S. by
Marge Soules of Indiana, this non-registered cultivar is a sport of
H. kikutii caput-avis. It is a small size hosta
with green foliage.
According to
The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "It may be the same as the plant I named 'Unazuki Dwarf'."
"Plant's
neme is the Japanese academic name for
H. kikutii caput-avis...In
North America it is used as a cultivar name for a
selected, small clone of H. kikutii caput-avis.
The horticultural application of a Japanese academic
name is technically incorrect because this name applies
to all the natural populations of this taxon, not just a
selected clone. For this reason I have added the
importer's name to the cultivar name, as H. 'Unazuki
Soules', to make this clonal cultivar name acceptable
under the ICNCP."
