This slow growing cultivar is a seedling of
H. kikutii caput-avis which originated in
Japan with
Hajime Sugita of Japan and was registered by
Peter and Jean Ruh of Ohio in 2001. It is a medium size plant about 17
inches high by 29 inches wide with light green foliage.
The leaves are slightly rippled, slightly twisted, slightly wavy and very shiny on top. Lavender,
bell-shaped flowers bloom in Ohio from August into
September. It sets viable seeds. According to
The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "Though registered as a H. 'kikutii var. caput-avis
seedling, it bears more of a resemblance to
H. pycnophylla."
