This is one
of those cases where there are two hostas with the
same name. Neither is registered with The American Hosta Society. The first one to be registered would
become the "official" hosta of that name and the
other would have to be renamed.
Dr. Ralph (Herb) Benedict of Michigan has a hosta of this
name which was an H. 'Tokudama' type with blue-green
leaves that had a gold marginal variegation. It has
subsequently been renamed H. 'Gretchen Harshbarger'.

Alex Summers of Delaware named an open-pollinated
seedling of H. 'Elatior', 'Gretchen'. It is a large
size hosta with green foliage and has very fragrant
flowers.
