This non-registered hosta is a
tissue culture sport of H. 'Wide Brim' from
Walters Gardens,
Inc. of Michigan The dark green foliage has a thin, yellow to white marginal
variegation. Its leaves are wavy, cupped and develop some
corrugation. Lavender flowers bloom from mid-July into August.
According to
The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "Include this one in your collection of "oddball" hostas
alongside 'Praying Hands', 'Tortifrons', 'Corkscrew', and
'Outhouse Delight'."
An article by Warren I. Pollock in
The
Hosta Journal (2003 Vol. 34 No. 1) states that, "In my
view, boat-shaped or "keeled" is a better descriptor than folded. The leaf blade
curves upward from the midrib similar to how a canoe looks...H. 'Stetson', 'Cowrie',
'Banana Boat', and 'Blue Canoe' are some other hostas with this folded or keeled
leaf shape."
