This hybrid of H. 'Spilt Milk' × H. 'Abiqua
Drinking Gourd' was registered by
Sandy
and Rich
Brown of Michigan in 2008. The plant grows
into a giant size hosta around 30 inches in height and a spread of 66 inches. Its foliage
is slightly rippled,
heavily corrugated and broadly ovate with a cordate base. The leaves are glaucous on both the top and the
bottom. Its near white flowers have slightly lavender stripes and bloom from
June into July. The foliage starts
the season blue-green but changes
to dark green later.
From the
Field Guide to Hostas by Mark Zilis (2014), "...takes the top prize in the unruly, unsettled division
of hostadom. Its deep blue-green color and
cardboard-like substance also stand out...The
breeding possibilities...should give every
hybridizer beautiful dreams." |
