Hosta 'Swoosh'

This hybrid of H. 'Yellow Splash' × H. 'Neat Splash' was registered by Paul Aden of New York in 1978. It is a medium size plant that grows about 14 inches tall by 34 inches wide. The foliage is heavily streaked with yellow to creamy white and green. Some specimens are green with whitish streaks or a white marginal variegation. The leaves have smooth texture and thin substance. It bears bright purple flowers from late July into August followed by viable seeds.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "Despite the difficulty of maintaining its true form, 'Swoosh' has been an outstanding hybridizing plant. Used as a pod parent, 'Swoosh' produces a high percentage of variegated seedlings...Some of the best to come out of 'Swoosh' breeding include 'Leola Fraim', 'Harpoon', 'Dark Star', 'Iceberg', and 'Carolina Sunshine'."

The New Encyclopedia of Hostas by Diana Grenfell (2009) states: "A rare, much-prized breeding plant. Striping quickly reverts to marginal variegation unless the plant is divided often."
