in 1995, this cultivar is the result of a cross of H. 'Golden Scepter' × the species,
H. yingeri.
This medium size plant starts yellow and turns green as the season
progresses. The smooth textured leaves are elliptic to narrowly
ovate with wavy margins.

article about hybridizing by
Tony Avent in
The Hosta Journal (1996 Vol. 27 No. 1), Tony gives the following
comments on cultivars he has introduced: "H. 'Sweet
Tater Pie' - H.
'Golden Scepter'
x H. yingeri - a totally new
look in hostas...the leaves look waxy gold, rippled with different colors in
each ripple...wonderful yingeri-like flowers."
