Clump with ascending stems
12-18 inches tall with a spread to 18 inches.
The small, ¼ inch blue flowers are packed tightly into 6 inches terminal racemes. The individual flowers have a 4 or 5 parted calyx and a rotate corolla that is 4 or 5 lobed.
Early summer
The leaves are opposite and have a soft white-tomentose. The lower leaves are oblong and the upper stem leaves are lanceolate. Length varies from 2-4 inches. The leaves are petioled and obtusely crenate.
 
 
  • 'Barcarolle' - Rose-pink flowers and gray-green foliage, 12 inches tall. From Blooms of Bressingham Nursery in England and it is a hybrid of V. spicata and V. spicata ssp. incana.
  • 'Minuet' - Bright pink flowers and silver leaves, 12 inches tall. Similar parentage to 'Barcarolle' although the foliage is more silver on 'Minuet'.
  • 'Nana' - Violet-blue flowers, gray-green leaves. 8 inches tall.
  • 'Saraband' - Violet-blue flowers and gray leaves, 12-18 inches tall.
  • 'Wendy' - Lavender-blue flowers, gray-green leaves, 18-24 inches tall.
