The yellow pealike flowers are borne in
dense, terminal racemes, which are 8-12 inches
long. The flowers look like a yellow lupine,
hence the common name, Carolina lupine. |

compound with 3 leaflets. Leaflets are ovate or
obovate, 2-3 inches long, pubescent and glaucous
on the lower leaf surface. |

thermos, a lupin and opsis, a resemblance,
referring to the similarity of the flower of
Lupinus
and Thermopsis. |
