The flowers are bisexual, but the greenish
yellow stamens tend to dominate. The
fine-textured panicle branches above the middle
of the flowering stems. The small flowers are
not as noticeable on this species as they are on
other meadow rues.
Late spring to
early summer.
Alternate leaves are bi- or tri- pinnate, leaflets
are rounded or wedge shaped at the base and slightly
notched with 3 lobes at the apex. The foliage color can
be green or glaucous. The dainty texture of the foliage
is similar to the maidenhair fern.
