Lavender-blue solitary flower heads up to 4 inches wide

Stems are tomentose leaves alternate, oblong-lanceolate, to 8 inches long, spiny-toothed toward the base, the upper leaves clasping.
 
 
  • Alba' - White flowers.
  • 'Blue Danube' - Lavender-blue flowers up to 5 inches wide.
  • 'Blue Moon' - Hyacinth-blue flowers.
  • 'Blue Star' - Light blue flowers borne on strong stems.
  • 'Silver Moon' - The creamy white flowers of this cultivar are larger than those of 'Alba'.
  • 'Wyoming' - Darkest blue flowers
 
There is only one species in the Stokesia genus which was named for Dr. Jonathan Stokes, an English botanical author.
