Upright, dense, forming a broadly rounded crown.
50-75 feet tall with a similar spread
Flowers are creamy-white, mildly fragrant, borne in 6-12 inch terminal panicles, very showy.
 Late July-mid August
Leaves are alternate, pinnately compound with 7-17 leaflets, each being ovate, 1-2 inches long, with an acute apex and entire margins, lustrous medium to dark green in color.
Fall color is nonexistent.
Buds are black, wooly, concealed by swollen leaf scar, subpetiolar
Stems are slender, smooth, green in color.
Fruit is a bright green changing to yellow-brown pod, 2-4 inches long, resembling a string of pearls or a Chinese abacus.
 
 

  • 'Pendula' - grafted high on a seedling of the species, develops into a densely rounded, globe-shaped head with pendulous branches
 
The seeds are poisonous if eaten.
